Well the surgery down the road from me is taking on NHS patients so it's not true in Northampton
No news about that in Wales Immi.
Check this out, they are still taking on new patients!! http://www.nhsdirect.nhs.uk/articles/article.a spx?articleId=1778
Dentists have been trying to get out of taking NHS for ages. It started with them pushing private dental care schemes and insurance. Now they will only take a certain number of patients so it can be very difficult to actually find one in your area. As yet it isn't law they have to take NHS but it is an agreement they enter into. It will come though you can be sure of that!!!

Like all the registered professions they are pricing themselves out of work. I suggest you look at this before involving yourself in expensive treatment.

There is the other side of the coin whereby the money that the government is willing to pay a dentist for treating an NHS patient is so low that it is not economical for them so to do.
