NHS dentists

My mum has moved 200 miles away from her NHS dentist and we haven`t told them yet. As she returns to the area from time to time she would still like to use them as NHS dentists are hard to find.
My question is, do you have to live in the dentist`s area or can she still stay on their books with her new address?

as far as i'm aware, it doesn't matter, it's not like a doctor making house calls. as long as you can get in for your appointment with the dentist that's all that matters. am prepared to be corrected though :)

I go to my NHS dentist which is in Darlington I live in York - they don't seem to mind.

Thanks for your answers. Didn`t want to come clean with them until I knew. I`ve made the appointment and it`s all sorted.

My daughter still travels from Scotland to Dorset to see the dentist.

I used to travel about 70 miles each way to visit my old dentist when we moved house - the practice didn't mind at all, and were very helpful. I was lucky in one way as the dentist decided to not do NHS patients any more (he was nearing retirement age) and I rang the NHS to find out about dental practices near Portsmouth, where I now live, and found out that there was a new NHS practice opening about 3 miles away from me! We got on the waiting list very quickly, and are pleased with the treatment we have received. I think it's worth giving the NHS a ring just to see if there are any new ones opening near your mother. Anyway, good luck to your mum!
