Food poisoning
13 Answers
My friend and I shared 2 paninis in a roadside cafe (a big one) this afternoon. Since 6pm we have both been shaky, shivering and sick. I also have diarrhoea. It is clearly food poisoning. Last time I had this it spread to my knee and I got reactive arthritis- I couldn't walk and had to go down the stairs on my bum to get to the loo. Also had to wee into a jug and decant! I am desperate not to get this again- especially with xmas coming.
Does anyone have any advice, other than to get rid of as much of it as possible?

Awww you poor thing, big hugs xxx
What was in the paninis?
You can get anti diahro...the runs tablets and rehydration powders to replace the lost fluids. Make sure you keep your fluids up but avoid alcohol, sugary and sports drinks.
Avoid food until the symptoms start to pass, introduce plain gentle foods such as rice and potatoes and low sugar cereals.
Keep a high standard of hygiene, wash your hands regularly and make sure that any cups, glasses etc... you use are cleaned properly to prevent any reinfection.
If it hasn't cleared up in a few days or gets worse of if you can't keep any fluids down and get dehydrated, have a high temperature and fever, pass any blood (or black poo) or mucus, you are short of breath or having trouble breathing, your heart is racing, pounding, or skipping, you may have poisoning from mushrooms, fish, or botulism, you have any nervous system symptoms like weakness, double vision, difficulty speaking, or paralysis or you have trouble swallowing then get seen asap.
If you have any concerns ring NHS Direct...0845 46 47.
Hope you're feeling better soon xxx

technically joko is quite right: if your body's trying to expel something, let it get on with it. But I have to say if I've been to the loo so often I'm exhausted and sore and empty, I'll take an immodium just to give my body a rest. (This would go double if I had to go downstairs on my bum every time like Scarlett.) So I wouldn't say never use them.
