Have a look here it gives a more technical answer. Steer clear of some of the sites though I googled your question and got a few brainwashing sites.

The meaning of life is an ultimate question which comes down to peoples beliefs. Religious people will certainly believe the meaning of life is to embrace god and value their existence on earth and lead their life with purpose. Non believers will take the meaning of life to be to lead your life, getting the most out of it, give meaning to others and to love people. There really isnt much between the two theories but believers will think of it as a higher purpose.
Hi Charlotte, hope yu enjoy this:
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive well preserved body, but rather skid in sideways, champagne in one hand, strawberries in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming - Woooo Hoooo, what a ride!!!

Human intelligence is based around patterns. Think about IQ tests that ask you to find the next in the serie, the odd one out etc.
It's how all of those optical illusions work.
Infact you are right now seeing coloured spots flicker in front of our eyes and your brain is seeing the patterns and making sense of them.
This pattern forming is so strong, so basic that we see them where they don't exist - we look to find patterns in the stars, draw them into constellations even though the actual burning balls of gas are seperated by billions of miles.
And we look for meanings in unrelated events and call them omens.
We then look at our own existance and we are convinced that they cannot possibly be without a greater purpose, that there must be a design or pre-destination behind things and we cunjor up theories to fit this meaning.
If you doubt this think about it this way - If you lived in a Universe where there was no meaning, how would it be different?
It's not a theme which will endear you to your average RE teacher - they tend to like the sort of answers that say Life finds meaning in the love of your fellow man!
But hey you can't please all of the people all of the time
