I sometimes find myself avoiding pavement cracks! It only really becomes a problem when it takes over your day to day existence, or affects your life in general.

I do it too
Also when I think of a word or a name like you I work out how many letters in that name and also I do a mental thing with each letter working out how many times I would have to press a mobile phone to get that letter, I mentally envisage texting words or typing them. (I type for a living)

I count stairs - count your own, you'd be surprised how many houses have 13. There are 13 in my house so I have declared one a mini-landing by putting a cuddly Eeeyore on it. 78 at work.
p.s. Octavius, what with bad stuff going on in my life, the only other post I have made today (as whiffey anyway ;-))was in Food and Drink, about Bolognese sauce.
And Cliff is fantastic - anybody heard 'Reflections' ?

I often remember phone numbers only by the "pattern" they make on the keypad -
such as a smile is 1,5, 3 and a frown is 426
a square is 4 5 8 7 (or wherever on the pad)
thin L is 2589 and thick L is 1456, Y is 1538
in any order.
etc etc - you get the picture - however i only use those terms if i am trying to recall a number, while away from a keypad, to write it on a piece of paper - usually when actually dialling i just "see" an unamed shape and move my fingers in the right shape and "routine"

curly, you need to write things down. I used to count the stairs at work every day, until one day I got a different answer from the previous day. This was so serious that I got a notepad, went back to the ground floor, and re-ascended, making notes and subtotals on the way, e.g. second floor - patch of flaking paint, third floor - decorating disaster. I keep the notes on my desk so now I don't have to count them ever again, I can just look up the answer.
