A friend of mine who is trying for a baby has told me that a woman is only fertile 2 days a month, and that they are the 2 days before your period. This seems crazy to me, mainly due to the high amount of accidental pregnacies that seem to happen. Is she right????

I'm sure you can be fertile at any time. I think she meant to say most fertile
2-3 days is about right. It's actually 14 days back from the day you start your period. So on a 28 day cycle you will generally ovulate on day 14. On a 30 day cycle about day 16....This is only accurate if your periods are regular..

Crikey, I never realised it was so precise!
2 days before your period you are prbably gonna have missed the boat ;o)
it is the most fertile time, not the only fertile time.
But it isn't two days before your period, is it redcrx? it's around 14 days before.. ;o)
sorry pip, i didnt read it correctly. No its not the most fertile time, around 12-14 days after first day of period is. But as i said before you can fall pregnant at ANY time during your cycle.
Yep ~ you are right too :o)

I was just thinking that if scoobysoo's friend was going at it like billy-o only on the days she thinks she is most fertile, it might be a long wait..

Sorry, should have typed "WAS" trying for a baby. They suceeded after about 8 months of trying., but I forgot about it until the other day, when I was talking about fertility with my H2B (as you do!)
However, I can now use you fantastic advise for me! Last night my other half and I had a talk, and have decided that now is a good time for me to come off the pill. We're getting wed in 6 months time and are going to start trying as soon as we're married! I'm so excited!!!
Oh thats nice news, but I'd be a bit wary of coming off the pill straight away, my friend did that thinking she's have a while for her body to get back into baby mode and was pregnant within 2 weeks. :-)
My sister did exactly the same thing. She thought it would take a while to get pregnant and she fell in about 2 weeks. She was lucky she wasn't showing for her wedding

Don't worry, we intend to use condoms for around 4 months, then just let nature take its course
Good thinking batman :-)
