I wont even consider it until my son is sleeping through properly and has been for a few months. Im in no rush for him to be in a bed.

my daughter was 2 when she went into a bed, my son went into a junior bed with guard rails on 10 months because he used to jump up and down so much in his cot, he'd end up over the rails! it does depend on the child, and like redcrx says i would wait until they r sleeping through first and definately have guard rails on the side to start with xXx
I got my girls theirs at two because they kept trying to climb out the cots and falling. We figured it was actually safer in a bed - less of a distance to fall from a low bed than the top of a cot.
We did use side rails and put a stair gate at the top of the stairs in case they went wandering in the night.

Had this discussion in the playground the other day ,we all agreed that the best time to go from cot to bed is the day they climb out of the cot for the first time. At that point the cot almost becomes dangerous as the risk of injury in a fall from the rail of a cot is greater than the risk when falling out of a bed. One Mum's son broke his arm in 3 places from falling whilst trying to climb out of his cot. Cot beds can usually be set on a low height setting or if you are worried.
if he sleeps through the night and doesnt fidget then 22 months isnt too young in my opinion. Just ensure that he cant get to anything dangerous (put stairgate across his door if necessary) and make room child-proof. We shall be putting locks on our sons furniture when he goes into a bed and make sure he cant get to hot radiator in the mornings. We shall also continue using baby monitor so we know when hes on the move.
Think it should be down to the parents really.
Why would this be something to disagree over... Its a cot or a bed?? As long as the babies happy... why on earth would it matter at that age.
If your grandchild were.. say, 5, then I'd raise an eyebrow... but I dont see the issue here.
How about you support your daughter instead of finding small things to pick up on.

thanks most people for your advice, except that of ****** and pippa, it was just a question and your thoughts on it, the fact that im disagreeing with my daughter is nothing to do with it, she is a first time mum and although asks my advice, doesnt always agree with it, so its advice i am asking for not a telling off like a naughty schoolchild, thank you very much
Hey ~ my advice was that the child can remain in a cot until they can climb out of it.
I was only enquiring as to why you felt the need to argue about your daughters decision..there are far greater things to worry about other than your grandchild being in a cot at 22 months.
If you don't want answers, don't ask ;o)
