I got a bunch of red and a bunch of white from the same person. Do the different colours have any meaning? Or were perhaps Sainsburies were doing a BOGOF promotion.

White roses represent innocence and purity and are traditionally associated with marriages and new beginnings. The white rose is also a symbol of honour and reverence.
The two together (although some older people might mention blood and bandages - ignore that its old-fashioned) means that after midnight last night, all Shell petrol stations were flogging them off really cheap because they were wilting. :o)

Red roses are used to symbolise love. A favourite on Valentine's day. White roses are symbollic of innocence. Mind you , white roses are often used at funerals and can be associated with death so maybe he means that he loves you but at times he could really choke you lol ! I buy my friend white roses which are her favourites and these are also used to denote friendship. Maybe he was just hedging his bets because he didn't know which you'd prefer. Or maybe you are right about the bogof ! Either way , you have two lovely bunches of flowers.
