which was just purely for fun, it brought back memories of a film i once watched, so here goes, a serious question.

if you were on a beach or near a canal or similair and two small children were drowning, you realize one of them was yours. and you cant possobly save both.
hopefully we'll never find ourselves in such a dillema,
but what do you think you would do?

I would save my own child, its a mothers instinct. Horrendous but I couldnt let my child die.
My child everytime....

thats really honest, goodsoulette, i think i would too, but how i would feel about the other child, god only knows.
Don't have any children myself but it's gotta be your own without doubt
Question Author
by the way does anyone recall that film?
i think they fell out the boat, the girls dad saved her, but the boy drowned, it was an old black and white film, i think.
No, i don't remember the film. The one that gets me though is Sophies choice *sob sob sob*
oh God @ Sophie's Choice, that's a horrfic part in the film isn't it?
I get a lump in my throat thinking about it. I hate that grman officer with a passion.
What happens if you don't have any kids, and you don't like kids? Wouldn't you have more of a dilemma?
Question Author
well stewey, you dont need to like kids to save them,
your a human, thats what humans do.
ohhhh Stewey........bad bad man...!!!
you would stewey, its instinct, you never even think about it
Not for everyone Curly....I fell in a lake when I was about 4 and the bloke nearby who was fishing just sat there as I was drowning.....My Mum & Dad were walking ahead....but luckily Mum turned round to check on me.

The fisherman was sorry after.....My Dad is a BIG man
ahhhh right as usual...

most people, would'nt think about it...
Awful choice but i'm sure maternal instinct would kick in and I'd go for my own first.

Would probably be screaming my head off for someone else to come and help though to try and save the other one and try and throw them something to hold onto if I could. That's my lifeguard training kicking in but I'm sure it could be very different if my child was drowning.
I don't think you'd think about it, no matter who it was you'd give it a go unless you couldn't swim yourself
Maternal instinct will win every time.
I could just about live with myself for failing to save the other child as well but could never live with myself if I put another person's child before my own.
Let's hope we never have the problem.
It would definitely be my own child without question. I would be heartbroken for the other child , naturally but I couldn't not save my own child. Imagine having to choose between your own two kids though ? I remember sobbing reading the story of the poor mother caught up in the seige in Beslan who was offered the choice to remain inside with her two kids and die or leave with her baby. She chose to leave with her baby in the hope that she could get help and her second child would be rescued. Sadly not , her other child perished. I can't even begin to imagine the pain that poor woman will carry until her dying day. It's easy to say that you would stay behind with both kids , not wanting to leave your other child in fear and with the last memory being that his mother abandoned him to die alone but who's to say how you would react in that situation ? She obviously felt that she was doing the right thing by at least getting one child to safety but what an awful memory to carry.
god what a horrible choice, but to be honest I would definately save my own child.
Reminds me of this story:

Oh dear..Sophies Choice :o( I almost saw THAT clip the other day whilst watching 'most tearjerking moments' on channel 4. I switched it on and it was there right in front of me! luckily I quickly changed channel...but not in time to stop me going into the kitchen for a darn good cry...
