How far should you go if provoked by your partner? I have heard of men getting abused by their female partners./wives - is it acceptable for a woman to hit a man? People are forever shocked when they hear of a man hitting a woman - but it works both ways ?

No. its not exceptable for women to hit men and vice versa.
It does seem that men hitting women is highlighted more than women hitting men, why i don't know.
As for how far i would go if i was provoked by my partner, well i've never ever hit a woman and i never ever will, i would leave her, some might say thats a bit drastic, but thats what i would do, it baffles me how/why someone would want to stay in a relationship with violence in it, yes i know someone will say its because i love them or its because of the children etc etc, well if you LOVED SOMEONE you would'nt hit them, and if you stay because of ''THE CHILDREN'' you are exposing them to the violence which really ain't right

I think its terrible how differently the media reports the incidence of husband beating to that of wife beating. Remember when it was reported that Ross Kemp had been hit by his wife, it was treated as a big joke. Women may generally be smaller and weaker than men, but that does not mean that they cannot seriously hurt them. I personally don't think violence is justified, whatever your gender.

its not often that i am serious!!! so here goes...................
when my wife had our first child she had severe post natal depression and it made her VERY angry!!
she did not need drugs or drink as previously stated but the slightest thing would set her off to which the lowest point came when she "lost" it and tried to stab me whilst i was looking after our baby............... let me please sate that she was trying to hurt me NOT our child!!............. any way i picked up our son and ran away to my dads for the night!!
the next day i got an appointment with my wifes doctor and told him and he said "yeah, looking at the pills she is on i can see what you mean.......... we have had numorous men wake up with knives in them through these tablets"!!!!
so................i hope this brings a different light to your question now??
PS................... she is much better now and i am happy to say that being a reasonable person i could understand the mood swings she had??

I'm sure no-one will agree with me but hey, who cares!
I'm actually very irritated by how 'certain' women think they can do anything to their partner i.e shout abuse, hit, slap, punch their partners and they expect nothing back.
Regardless of gender, if you punch someone, you deserve it back!
Yes the force behind the punch is different but then if these women hit the men first what do they expect!
There are much more cases of domestic violence than we're told where the accused is female, only men unfortunately, are to worried about the backlash on them to say otherwise.

Well lets say if the 2 were in a fistfight, only women should be allowed to slap/punch as it hurts a lot less than the other way around and also, there's no risk of long term damage or trauma caused as a result (other than shame lol).
But if both start flinging dangerous household objects at eachother (ie- remote control, cordless phone, dinner plates, blender etc) then it is definitely not acceptable as serious damage and injuries can occur, not to mention the terrible mess left around the house afterwards

Hello Roughquest....
Hitting is bad both ways. I feel people don't react all crazy when they hear a girl whacking a guy because men are so much stronger then women ( in most cases) I think some people feel guys can take it.. BUT that doesn't mean its right at all!!
My brothers last GF hit him sometimes in a spazy out-rage at times when she was drunk.. It took him being hit a few times before he realized how wrong it was and he got rid of her. (Thanks God) He never hit her back even during the worst of it because he new with one punch he would brake her face. And also two wrongs don't make a right... right..
I think girls in many cases hang in on a battered relationship longer then guys do. Many girls get the beats for years before leaving... Guys seem to know there value better when it comes to this. Well thats just what I think and what its like where I live.. (British Columbia)
hmmm Just thinking and blabbing about what you posted...

It's not acceptable for women to hit men. But I have to say that if you are with a partner who keeps on provoking you to that extent then they're probably messed up individuals and you should serious consider whether they're the right person to be with. Easier said than done I know.
And actually, women can hurt men when they hit them. A hard slap around the face can sting like mad. But it's the humiliation of it that's worse, I think.
