Call NHS Direct and see what they say too.
0845 46 47 is the number.
If you have a sense that things are not good and something just isn't right, call an ambulance.

Call your doctor and try and talk to him direct and ask him to do a follow up visit as a matter of urgency. Its better to be safe than sorry and I do agree that phoning NHS direct may be the answer for quicker attention as they will certainly get someone/anyone up to see your Mum based on what you clearly and concisely tell them. Its often a quicker alternative than contacting your own GP.
My sister had a recent bout of flu - very similar symptoms and she was vomitting etc for a week and found it an enormous effort just to get out of bed.It took nearly three weeks before she felt more like her old self.
As beryllium says contact her doctor for a visit if you dont see some improvement in the next day or so,especially if the chest infection doesn't seem to improve. She may need stronger antibiotics or even steroids
So many people take a few days off work complaining they have flu when in fact they have a cold.
If you contract flu you are ill usually for about 14 days
