Flu, how long does the worst of it last?
19 Answers
Well, today is Saturday. This all started slowly feeling unwell on Wednesday. Thursday I felt worse, coughing and sore throat bit of a temperature. Friday I was just wrecked, sore head, throat, coughing temperature and I was sick. Today I feel just the same as yesterday but I have not felt sick today. How long will this last? I have been unable to get out of bed today or yesterday, when will things get better??

It took me a week to feel like doing much and I've only just got back to feeling normal now so you probably have 3 or 4 days of it yet I'm afraid. Just rest, drink as much as you can and let it take its course - there's not a whole lot you can do. Hope you start to feel better soon though

Are you male? If you are then it's Man Flu, but if you're female it's just a regular heavy cold.
Depending on how healthy you are generally, the worst of a cold should pass in 5 days, but to be rid of all the symptoms, could take up to two weeks plus.
As Ethel said, you don't have flu. if you did, you wouldn't be able to get out of bed.

Well I think you do have flu, although the flu normally comes on quickly - a cold develops more gradually so those you say you have a cold could, possibly, be right..
However, the reason I think it could be flu is the nausea you experienced. I fell ill with flu on Wedneday, spent all thursday and yesterday in bed, only getting up to go to bathroom, and today I'm feeling slightly better.. not much but enough to eat and sit in bed with my laptop.
The reliable way of telling though, is the 10 note test... if you've got a cold you'd find the energy to pick it up.. if you have the flu you wouldn't... apparantly...

stewey, my most recent colds have been one day coming, one day there and one month going. No kidding, I'm coughing for a month afterwards and driving everyone nuts. It all depends on the particular bugs going round. If you had norovirus you'd know all about it, but it doesn't sound as if k8 has that (I assume from her name that k8 is female and doesn't have manflu). On the other hand, colds don't leave you unable to get out of bed; so it may be flu of some sort, just not the vomiting sort that's been in the news.
Gelda is right, i've only had proper flu once and i was so ill, i was in bed for more than a week with a raging temperature, complete with hallucinations and couldn't stay awake for more than 10 minutes at a time. I knew i was getting better when i managed to stay awake for 30 minutes at a time, but was achy and lethargic for about another fortnight after that. If you've got the flu you can tell if it's just a bad cold or not, because with the flu you feel so very ill, and even a bad cold is nowhere near as bad as proper flu. Hope you feel better in time for Xmas, K8.
