I had a very successful hip replacement 7 months ago and I am back to my long walks (6-8miles twice a week) but my scar is still very sensitive and sore to touch, sometimes more than others. It is healed very well and no redness, apparently it is nerve endings. Has anyone got any advice how to relieve this as it is beginning to get me down. Especially as I have to have the other hip replaced later this year. Many thanks.
Massage can help, I have a really deep scar on my knee (it was cut right through to knee-cap) from when I was about 10 years old and it still feels sensitive at times. I cant bare anyone touching it but me, I find a massage with some aqueous cream helps relieve it.
I had an op on my leg many years ago and I was advised to massge pure lanolin into it as it helps the new skin stretch. Could use old fashioned but wonderful remedy Arnica cream, or Calendula cream.
My hip replacement is also 7 months ago and I still get a stinging sore sensation, particularly if I have done too much.My GP also told me to use loads of moisturising lotion and massage the scar rubbing quite hard.Stimulates circulation and helps the healing process.Good Luck.
On rare occasions, a stitch can come loose inside the fascia, under the skin. This in turn can lead to irritation, soreness and possibly a wound sinus.
If the symptoms persist, pop along to your GP's and have it checked over.
