it is for them to pay for any eye tests, but it is up to you to pay for glasses.
I'm pretty sure that they do have to pay for your eye test....
i dont know if it is compulsory but my employers pay money towards glasses only if you only need them for computer use as we use them at work. if was for reading etc they would not pay as you would need that for yourself away from work. Our eyetests are free in Scotland now.
Your employer has to pay the full cost of one eye test per year. I dont think this applies within your probationary period though. In my company, I can go more than once a year and they pay 20 max each time. They dont have to pay towards your glasses though, unless you have worked for your company for a duration of time and you can prove (normally through a good history of eye tests) that your eyesight has deteriorated due to computer use.

i thought it was compulsory for them to pay for the test, but then it was upto them if they wanted to pay towards the glasses, but a colleague of mine said when he had his eyetest the company wouldnt pay towards it as they didnt need to, its not compulsory for them to do so!'....
The eye test that company's have to pay for (in England) is one specifically designed for people who use VDU's all the time - this isn't the same as a normal eye test.
mine was a normal eye test and they pay for it and have done for any eye tests since. Best way to find out is Just ask your employer.

Yes, your company is obliged to pay for prescription glasses for VDU use only. I have just had a company eye test and I need glasses for VDU use only, my company are required to pay for these as my optician did say this to me also at the time.
