Was this childish behaviour?
40 Answers
I went to a toy fair last week and took my 6 year old along with me. We got to a stall which had 'Pez' items on it and as my daughter loves these we stopped to have a look.
One of the boxes was overflowing with Pez holders, and as my daughter picked one up another fell on the floor. I picked it up immediately, inspected it for damage (there was none) and put it back in the box. A second later a big beefy American woman came storming over and asked if we were buying. I relied I wasn't sure yet. She then started shouted on about how we shouldn't be touching unless we were buying etc.
I told her that she was the rudest American I had ever met (and I have met many). Her reply was that I was the rude one and that she was sick of people like me ruining her business. later on while she was distracted I put a note on her stall which read 'HEAP OF SH1T' before I left. This gave me immense satisfaction, but Mr P said I had been childish.
Anyone else resort to doing things like this in order to cleanse their soul?

Whether the item dropped because of boxes overflowing or not, it still dropped because of what you did - you cannot get away from that. I do not suppose you apologised did you? From what you have said, you seem to think that you were totally in the right. Sorry but you were not - and however many people you get agreeing with your childish behaviour does not make it right or acceptable. Teaching your daughter to react this way is deplorable.

Firstly, the rude person did not give me a chance to apologise.
Secondly, I reiterate it HAS cleansed my soul ~ this was not part of my question at all.
Thirdly, none of this was done in my daughters presence. She was being led off by my husband to the much nmicer user-friendly Beanie Babies stall.
Fourthly, I did not ask anyone if they thought I was right. My questions were whether people thought I was childish (not always a bad thing in my opinion) and what others have done to cleanse their souls.
Number 5, I wasn't the only one who would have been in this predicament due to the way the stall was laid out. How on earth was anyone going to look before they buy if the box was piled high? As I am a dealer myself I know the best way to protect your goods. Signs asking customers to ask for help or not to touch is a good start ~ being rude to them before they have a chance to approach you is not.

Octavius you are very naughty. This was a toy/collectors fair. You should have seen it...men in their 40's, 50's, 60's and beyond salivating over toy train carriages and Action Men.
A very lucrative business. Unless you are dealing in Pez, of course ;o)
My daughter came home with Beanie babies and I bought some great Family Guy toys!

One, you always have the chance to apologise - whether you take it is up to you.
Two, you can reiterate over and over again that this has cleansed your soul - you are wrong - childish revenge does nothing to help your soul at all.
Three, ok I apologise if this was not done in your daughters presence.
Four, by asking whether anybody esle had done things like this, you surely did not expect everybody else to agree with what you did?
Five, this woman had a go at you, not anybody else as far as you have told it so how DID others manage? Have you asked yourself that?
I am not going to stay with this any longer, but as you appear to be asking the question purely to salve your conscience after being told by your husband that you had been childish, I sincerely hope any replies will not lead to your doing something as petty as this again.

I never ask anyone to agree with me. What I do expect is for the question/s to be answered.
You think I was being childish? good. That's one aswered then. Everything else you have said is your opinion, and I respect that ~ even if it is a load of old bollow.
I can only assume she was rude to others as well ~ after all she did state she was 'sick of people like me ruining her business' therefore someome else must have displayed the same discourtesy as me in that they were interested in what she was selling. I didn't turn up at the fair until 2 hours after it started ~ it was only after this episode that she started being nice to people so I gather that she had re thought her manners.
Not trying to salve my conscience at all. I can deal with what I did, and remain a person not to be walked on :o)
As has already been said by girlygirl ~ treat others as you expect to be treated. Unfortunately all this person knew was how to be rude.

Gosh, Pippa, consider your wrists well and truly slapped by Headingley!
On the plus side, I think what you did was spot-on!! I like revenge stories when someone has been rude, or behaved badly and deserved it. Good on you!! I tend to leave notes on badly parked, no, make that inconsiderately parked cars etc. Especially when it means I have to push a buggy onto the road to get past. People need to think of others in our overcrowded country!! We all rub shoulders with too many people not to...

i think headingly has a problem with the claim that taking a petty revenge on someone can ever possibly be soul cleansing, and I have to say I agree - in the truer sense of the term, revenge and pettyness can never cleanse a soul - only goodness can genuinely cleanse a soul
however - it was funny and it made you feel better - and i think thats all you really meant when you used the term ''cleanse my soul''.
getting your own back on someone in a heartfelt but harmless way, is bound to make someone feel better...life's little victories.
so headingly - its just a turn of phrase, not meant literally.

well done.
I was in cornwall with mrs some years ago, passed a pub at 1.30pm advertising carvery at 5 per head. Went in bought drinks sussed that you had to buy a ticket for meal then queue. Our turn, food all gone but we could have normal menu at 3 times cost. ( there was carvery left but apparently for staff) This always happens in Britain.
Picked up glossy expensive looking large a la carte menu, took it outside, ripped it into small pieces and scattered it over car park.Very childish but I felt better, hungry but satisfied.

joko you are right, of course..it wasn't meant in the serious sense. However I think Headingley (where did they go, btw???) was more upset about my act itself and the dropping of the breakable item (which wasn't dropped nor broken) rather than the soul cleansing and my complaint about the rude person.
Well done that Doc!
