Till our pubs are clear of the smelly smokers, I can't wait, of course there'll still be some jam tarting but that's minor in comparison to the foul odour of your weed addicts. Are you looking forward or dreading? Smokers, how will you cope? Will you give up or puff on defiantly? Non smokers will you go outside with your sad addict friends or just wait inside while they have a fix?

well Im pleased the ban will come in for the sake of the kids, I can understand how antisocial it will make a lot of smokers feel, my dad still smokes(has done since he was 8), he is unhappy at being made to feel like a nuisense at work because he needs a fag break.

they are making nice outdoor area's now for smokers which is good, and during the summer i guess no one will mind the ban so much, I quit years ago and I wouldnt take up the habit again, mainly because it screwed up my health and I would be wheezing after a short run to get the bus!!

I feel as fit as a butchers dog (probably look like one as well!!) and for the sake of my kids it was the right decision, As I grew up in a smoke filled house I wouldnt wish that on any kid to have to live with.

yipee i cant wait, i just cant imagine going to a pub/club and not comming home stinking of smoke. i wonder how much the government will save on all related smoking/passive smoking illnesses? anyway its not a money issue, peoples health should be worth more than money.

SMOKED Haddock
The smoking ban has been in effect for approximately 3 years here in Ontario, and there really have been no drastic changes in the bar/pub scene. People who want to smoke go outside, either to a designated (uncovered) patio or onto the sidewalk: simple as that. I do have to ask why there is so much blatant hostility, hatred, and disgusting disrespect between smokers and non-smokers in the UK? (If this site reflects the general consensus). I certainly have never observed such an attitude here: perhaps we are more tolerant of each other in the Colonies?

Wow just got back from lunch, well we did touch a few nerves didn't we. Well thanks for your contributions everyone. Some observations of my own.

Triggerhippy/Curlyperm. Smokers spend at least 5 a day to inhale 600+ toxic chemicals, 100 of which are highly poisonous, because they have the will power of rocking horses, Id say "sad addict" is a very accurate description.

Triggerhippy/Doc Spock: Oh dear the old "smokers pay loads of tax" argument. Yes they do but they cost at least twice what they pay. Arrgghh I hear you scream, not true. The trouble is in the rush to justify their disgusting habit they only use some of the figures. I'll help shall I, smoking brings in 9bn, cost to the NHS about 1.5bn, but that's only DIRECT cost. The indirect cost of smoking is approx 25 billion, not just to the NHS. So I'm looking forward to a tax cut when this fould habit is finally onsigned to history.

Laurence: way to go!
ooohhhh Laurence I'm scared bet you only say it to midgets over 50.

Miss Random - Fatties cost the NHS more than smokers

stewey, your more tolerant and i suspect more respectful.

The hostility comes from smokers being disrespecful to non smokers ie in restaurants, public places etc etc

Reverandfunk, i will make an exception for you if you so wish.

Another disgruntled smoker i see then

Go and puff on your cancer stick, just remember july 1st?

And me?
