Will I be laughed at?

As you may be aware I am taking a teaching post this September and I have been sent the protocols for such a post.

I have never really been a suit person and was thinking of dressing myself in a good quality tweed jacket, various coloured trousers and a selection of bow-ties as opposed to traditional ties.

Images of Mr Bronson from Grange Hill and any decent school master from yesteryear spring to mind.

The question is, in the days of mobile phones and �125 trainers, will I simply look silly or will I maintain a degree of respectability whilst being "slightly" outside of the norm. I am not exactly a trendy person and buy clothes for quality and practicality as opposed to fashion and labels.

Do I therefore go with my bow-tie image or not?

You will indeed look ridiculous. You may wish to appear intellectual and eccentric, but it could fall flat. Try it. I wouldn't. I associate bow-ties with posh idiots and supercilious society mini-celebs full of their own assumed importance. I don't expect you are one of these though.

I think you should go for it but dispense with the shirt and get a nice big hairy chest wig.

You will also need to purchase some tight towling style 80's shorts to take your PE class in (prefereably pastel/powder blue)

I think you should wear what makes you are comfortable.

Second thought .....Why don't you get dress and then post a picture of your dressed self. Then we will be able to give you an honest answer.

Again it depends on your age,i live by a school and most of the male teachers wear trousers or jeans with a shirt. How old are you?

Dont forget to wear leather patches on your Jacket elbows or you will drop such a faux pas that you will never be able to take your place in the teacher's Common Room
