My kids went back to school this morning after 7 weeks holiday. My seven year old said "I thought that we were not going back until after summer" I replied that he was correct. "So was that summer then?" - out of the mouths of babes eh! Poor little souls are going back to school as white as they left! I think that not having any sun this year will make it a long dark winter. Any ideas of what we can do to counteract the depression? -also any ideas for how to get rid of the quagmire of mud in my back garden would be good!!

its awful when they are young as every day stretches out in front of them.

My 2 year old says most mornings 'its raining again, its always raining mummy'

Its a far cry from the long hot summers I recall as a child!
I was thinking that the other day in town , feeling sorry for the school holiday children in their summer clothes shivering and wet

Unfortunately not a bank holiday up here Gromit - though i have heard that the forecast is better from now, but the kids are back at school.
good, get em back into school, noisy little oiks. Now the weather's apparently improving it'll be all the better for us who can enjoy it to be able to without hearing kids screaming all over the place and generally cluttering up the area............lol
Even though the weather is rubbish it still does not deter "tubby" people with no suntan whatsoever wearing beachwear in Asda.
summer has been dismal this year, my daughters face has been that long she has been draggin it around the floor because she cant play out.

we have taken them on some day trips but they cost a fortune! the zoos entrance fee alone was 32 quid!

tubby people are allowed to feel hot as well rev, cut them some slack, why should they swelter to suit you....?

Well, I'm rather on the large side as well, but I have to agree with reverandfunk. I never wear clinging, fat ripple showing clothes - they look awful. I wear nice cool tops that skim and dont't cling.
Yes but in ill fitting bikinis and tight shorts looking whiter than a milk bottle?
well bikinis are a bit adventurous for the grocery shop I suppose....
I do feel so sorry for all the school holiday kids & for anyone holidaying in England, 'specially camping.

Mind you, it's got me out & into the swimming pool more often with the grandchildren! There's not been a great deal of difference from being in the pool &/or being out in this constant rain!

Good luck Annie....

Thanks for all your answers - they did make me laugh - it has been so bad in Scotland though we haven't even had the swimwear in the supermarket thing going on! I think if we want some sun, we are going to have to fly off somewhere for it - thereby producing more emmisions and causing global warming (or freezing and wetting in this case). You just can't win! If only we could find some way of towing the whole island down to greece for a couple of weeks and they could come up here and get some water.
