my mum is due to go in for the above operation on one eye. I know she has to go a few days before for some advice but we were just wondering if anyone can give any handy hints for quick recovery. Someone said that she should not bend for sometime or something?

My Mum had similar op earlier this year - to be honest I was stunned at how quickly she recovered - I went to see her the evening she had had op and she was fine, no bandages (which I expected) and she said she could see fine, you wouldn't even have known she had anything done. I think just follow whatever they tell you to do at the hospital.

thanks - that is great. I am sure she will be a quick healer but do you remember anything about this not bending for a period of time.

thanks
I had a cataract operation a year or two ago and it was an absolute doddle. I chose a local anaesthetic and was subjected to the most wonderful private fireworks show you could possibly imagine - all while feeling nothing, of course. My eyesight became normal again during the twenty minutes I spent waiting for the nurse to get my eyedrops and eyeshade together and I went home feeling fine and seeing perfectly normally.
I was gven no instructions about not bending down, the only precaution being to wear the eyeshade at night for a few days so that I didn't inadvertantly rub my eye while half asleep in bed. Altogether a very pleasant and relaxing experience.

that is good to hear thanks x
Hi Joannie 10, Just had my the cataract op last wednesday it was brilliant, And yes they do tell you to avoid bending down and this stops excessive pressure going to the head ,so for a quick and successful recovery tell her to do exactly as they tell her and she will hopefully be pleased with the outcome.
I am 80 year old and I cannot wait to go back in about 6 weeks time and get the other eye sorted. Best of Luck to Mum.

thanks Alligator. I know my mum will do as she is told and fortunately only seems to be problem with one eye. I am sorry I am focusing so much on the no bending thing but she is 71 and a keen bowler. She is also reluctant to tell 'friends' about this and rather than letting people down feels she would like to tell her fellow bowlers for example she is not going to be along for 2 weeks or whatever. Is the no bending thing for a few weeks?
Hi Joannie 10, Your Mum should get all the info at the Hospital which if she takes notice of and do as they tell her she should be bowling again in a couple of weeks of course this will depend on how she feels herself. Good Luck.all the Best.
