Don't even get me started on this.

You have identified only one of the many errors made on here by the less enlightened.

Common mistakes:

Not knowing the difference between 'there', 'their' and 'they're'.

Writing 'wo'nt' instead of 'won't'.

However, the one which really gets me is people pluralising nouns with an apostrophe such as 'cat's', 'dog's' etc.

The strange thing here is that they sometimes only do this to SOME of the nouns in their post such as this gem actually seen in the sports section.

'Chelseas players have let in less goal's this season.'

You will notice here that the writer is obviously not sure whether or not to use the apostrophe to pluralise the nouns so he has played it safe and only done it to one. He has been so preoccupied with this that he has omitted the apostrophe from Chelsea's to show that the players belong to Chelsea.

People should break their posts up into sentences, each one separated by a full stop and starting with a capital letter. This way they will be so much easier to read. I sometimes find myself reading a post several times because the lack of punctuation makes them meaningless.

Our Chelsea fan has also used the word 'less' instead of 'fewer'.

Another awful habit is using '2' and '4' instead of the words 'to' and 'for'. By all means use 'textspeak' in texts but leave it there. It has no place whatsoever in written English.

I also read in an official letter in work from our pay department that they were doing their 'up most' to sort out the pay problems.

If that's their grasp of the English language, it's no wonder the pay is wrong.

Immaterial to peoples spelling mistakes, Grammer, punctuations or the grasp of the English language on answerbank, surely the so-called Aber's who are ''picky'' should refrain from commenting.

Have you taken time out to take into account that some people might not be as educated as some of you.

I agree that to much txt slang can be a little confusing at times, but to be ''picky'' on what i would call trivial things makes you type of people very shallow.

Read between the lines for god sake, and try to participate rather than just coming onto this site to mock others.

I honestly cannot believe the amount of people who moan about spelling mistakes/grammar on here. At the end of the day does it really matter if someone spells a word wrong?

Haven't you ever thought that some folks may have problems with reading and writing? That their education may not have been as fantastic as your own? Nice to point out their mistakes eh? Or maybe the person could have dsylexia or something like that? again nice to point it out in public. Or maybe the person has english as their second or even third language, again nice to pull em up :rollseyes:

I myself have a medical problem that causes complex memory problems, one problem I get is mental blocks on words. I will often write a sentence completely free of spelling mistakes yet put a stupid word in instead of the word I should have done. Personally I tend to cope with this by laughing at myself and I have no problem with people laughing at me for it or even giving me a good old windup for it. But for someone to point stuff out in public as though the person who has made the mistake is stupid is so wrong in my book.

As laurence says read between the lines. If you can understand what the person is saying what bloody difference does it make?

One could also argue though that if you know you're a terrible speller, then surely it's wise to use some kind of spellchecker on your posts?

I agree that most of the times it's not important, but I do feel that if you write a (sensible) question and expect others to answer, the least you can do is make it legible.

Grammatical errors are a different matter though- we all make them.
