written to a prisoner?
I watched a documentary about the Yorkshire ripper last night on channel 5, and they interviewed a woman who had written to Peter Sutcliffe and apparently they fell in love through these letters. It was also said that he is the person who gets the most mail where he is.
And it makes me wonder what would posess someone to write to a prisoner like that, especially someone as horrid as that. It's just beyond me..
i don't understand it at all. Especially all the women who end up falling in love with people on death row in America, there is even dating websites for inmates!
to me it's just ridiculous!
what's your opinion!?

Hi missjef, the notorious serial killer Ted Bundy had hundreds of lady admirers who regularly wrote to him before he was executed. I have no idea what the attraction is with these mentalists, but some women obviously find them dangerous and attractive!!
Apparantly Ted Bundy used to meet up with some of these women in prison and the prison guards would allow him to have a quicky with them. Totally crazy ay?

I watched it too missjef & couldn't believe how gullible some people are!

The woman who fell in love & wanted to marry Peter Sutcliffe, eventually found out from the prison officers that he was also writing to lots of other women. When she showed them how shocked & upset she was, they blocked her visits to him in the hope that the relationship would fizzle out, which it did - eventually.

But, I'm amazed that she still loved him, even though she knew of all the women he murdered! Silly moo!
I sent a friend who's inside a postcard. Wouldn't sent some random nutter one though!!
I suppose some women are just extremely compassionate but in most cases I would expect them to extraordinarily ugly and lonely or barking mad. Its come to a sad state in someones life when they look for love in life prisoners.

Maybe I would write to a prisoner who was inside for a longish time under mitigating circumstances. Like that dad maybe who went to prison for a few years for killing his terminally ill son so he didnt have to suffer for the last few months. I doubt it though.

I have had a few myspace requests off blokes claiming to be in prisons in America and to be honest I am shocked and appalled that they would be allowed access to such sites,
Oh and I cant believe it didn't spring to mind but I did write to a boyfriend who had a spell inside. I was going to be dutiful and wait but that lasted a week.
No, but i did visit an ex-neighbour when he was in Barlinnie prison in Glasgow, twice, then never went back when i discovered what he'd really done - yuk

I would never ever write to a prisoner just for the hell of it.

what had your neighbour done weeal?
i don't understand why anyone would want to write to murderers or rapists, just completely stupid in my opinion.
he and another guy had beaten up a man and the man died, but they had also robbed him, I didnt know the story till later on
my neighbour was, as I thought, a lovely guy he looked a bit like Tom Selleck
shocker
I think famous prisoners become a magnet for women who are unable to form relationships properly.

A prisoner is someone who is not going anywhere - you can depend on him to need you, it doesn't interfere with your daily life, you can interact with him on your terms, and tell yourself that it is 'love'.

I do think it's sad for both parties, but there is something in the psyche of both parties that respond to what is fundamentally a distorted view of what a relationship would usually be - interaction, shared experience, intimacy, and so on.

I wouldn't claim to understand it, but there are more things I don't understand than do - I'll just add this onto the list.
My ex-boyfirend got sentenced to life for a crime that i know he didnt commit!!!! i was with him at the time and i do still love him! i write to him and visit him! people say i'm crazy for doing it but when you love someone so much and know that they are innocent you will do anything! we are not together anymore and i have met a new bloke who is understanding! but i will always keep intouch with him! we are just friends now but hopefully he will win his appeal as he was in the wrong place at the wrong time and unfortunately the jury didnt see this! !
I dont get people who just randomly write to murders and rapists though that is a bit worrying! but i suppose to some people there must be an attraction for the dangerous side and the 'excitment' of going to visit a jail! however i would much rather not have that in my life and just have anormal relationship...i really dont see why you could want to fall in love with these monsters!!!!
I used to write to a couple of friends who ended up inside. Being in prison turned them needy and paranoid - maybe some women like that???
