Such a good site and some lovely posts on here. I have relatives whom I never knew buried abroad and I am proud to wear my poppy.

Hey Smudge! Yes, it came as quite a shock to many of us up and down the coast. It seems this 'movement' started near Manchester. Thankfully, I know of no one here along the coastal areas who are so misguided.

Tomorrow will be a powerfully moving experience, just as it has always been. And it serves as a living image for our children to recongise what others have given for their freedoms.

My son has said to me many times that he feels particularly proud when he helps me with a funeral for a veteran because he knows what they gave for him.

And let us not forget all of our fine soldiers who are serving today.

I always think. if it wasn't for the sacrifices of the warriers of the first and second world wars, we wouldn't be enjoying the freedoms that we do.
But thats not to take away the sacrifices of the wars since, those men and women should, and will be remembered in the sevices tomorrow.

Doc - that's the song I've been asking if someone could post on here! (I'm useless at links) It's so moving, isn't it? The other one that I've mentioned in other posts is Garth Brooks' "Belleau Wood" - if anyone can get that on here too, it just shows the irony of it all.
Those of you who posted the poems - they're all so true and so sad to wonder what it was all for....

Today, as we gathered, standing in silence, honouring those whose lives were cut short by the horrors of war, we found comfort and we found strength to meet the days ahead. And in our Remembrance, there arose the same plea, the same prayer, the same cry, that has gone before us for centuries: Please. Please. No more war.

Unfortunately, because my wife is away, I'm looking after our Autistic daughter, so for the first time, I couldn't attend the service, but I did manage to catch most of the Cenotaph parade on the box.
