Let criminals out early/dont jail people who deserve it

lol
Break out the noose!
I;ve got a shed that you could fit three in, I am willing to rent that to the government. We could also chain them to the shed on a tether and they could mow the lawn / hang out the washing too.
Now that there's a hunting ban- how about setting them free on a little island off say Scotland somewhere, then charge hooray henrys a fortune to get trigger happy?

or that ^^^
I think we should start a game show like "The Running Man".
Let's put cameras in a prison, do a half hour report every evening on TV, make them celebrities but claim a percentage for being their agent and then build more prisons.
Some petty crimes do not warrant a jail sentence and actually it might be more beneficial to look at other ways such as community service combined with the tag and an educational/rehabilitational programme.

However it would take a goverment with very large balls to put that suggestion in to practice while the public opinion leans towards 'throw away the key.' (Which is funny cause the same people often turn around and say that prison is a holiday camp, but I digress).

Put simply, jail is not always the answer. But while people see it as such another way will not be welcome. Especially not my suggestion.
We should build 5 new prisons for TV License dodgers.

Factoid:
"Excluding motoring offences, default on television licence fines accounted for the largest single number of female fine defaulter receptions. There were more women imprisoned for fine default concerning television licence offences than there were for offences relating to theft and handling (16.2%), prostitution (5.6%), fraud and forgery (4.2%), violence against the person (3.9%), burglary and robbery (1.5%), or drunkenness (1.8%)"

TV license = 135 Prosecution and prison = 2,500+.

Punish non-violent crimes with work to benefit the community. Keep prisons for people who are dangerous to other people. Its stupid letting a murderer out to make room for a Council Tax defaulter.
Hmmm, i gave my solution months ago.
Have the prisoners do 6-6 4 on 4 off shifts alternate. That way the capacity of the cell doubles...
Good God, I recognise that 'hmmm'... How the devil are you MrBenn? Have you been away researching your facts and are now prepared to admit I was right all along?
Couldnt they 'cell share' by making half of them stand outside for 12 hours whilst the other half kip in the bunks. Then they could change round for a bit.
ha, sorry. Just read Mr Bens post. We have the same way of thinking :-)

Well this was my idea a few weeks ago:

Gromit is right. There are too many people occupying prison cells for not paying their TV license and the like.

More room should be freed up so that really nasty amoral violent scumbags could be put away for longer.
Turn all the McDonalds and Burger Kings into mini-prisons
Erm, I see what you're saying Loosehead, but I think I'm going to agree with NJOK on that one.
No prison for anyone, apart from murderers, just bad punishments:

Thieves - chop off hands
Sexual crims - cut off knackers
Muggers - get something branded on their heads
Driving offenses - only allowe to use the bus
