If your blood was tested after fasting for 12 hours then that would be a high reading. However, if you have any infections or viruses it would make your blood glucose readings higher. Extreme stress can cause your blood sugar to be raised too. The only way to know for sure is to go and talk to your GP.
If you were to be diagnosed diabetic then the standard practice would be to refer you to a dietician and try to control your blood sugar levels by changing your diet. If, after 6-12 months, it doesn't bring your blood glucose levels down to within the normal range, they would then consider putting you on tablets. This is certainly what happened in my case and in most others I know of.
My blood sugar was never within the normal range (4-7) even when I ate nothing at all. A change of diet didn't work and I am now on Metformin tablets (which are not addictive, btw). One a day still didn't change my blood readings so now I am on three a day.
If you are in any doubt at all please go and see your GP. Diabetes can have some nasty effects in the long run if it isn't kept under control.
