I moved out of my mums to a different town under a different council about 3 years ago. I didn't tell my doctor about my new address as I didn't want to loose him as he is very good. My mum has had a letter asking to confirm his patients still have the same contact details. I want to know if the doctor can take me off his patient list as I do not live in 'his area' anymore? where I live they can - if they are 'full' then they want to pass you onto other doctors so people living in that area can register. Also if something happened and you were ill and needed a home visit they would not come if they then found out you were outwith the area.

Are you talking about a doctor or dentist (as in the title)???

Basically, whichever it is, the answer is the same. Yes they both can remove you from their list and make a space for someone who lives in the area.

The best thing to do is just say you still live at your mum's. At least you do have a family member at that address so it is not completely false information.

As long as you are willing to travel there to appointments. Bear in mind that for a doctor, you will not get a home visit out of the area.
