why can i not start the contraceptive pill straight away if im sexually active?

of course you can, but it won't change anything straight away, because popping loads of funny hormones doesn't make any egg that is about to form or already on its way disappear. and nobody ever told my girlfriend that sexual activity had anything to do with it. as i understand it, the different kinds of contraceptive pills either prevent ovulation or leads the body to believe that you are actually pregnant so the cell cluster that would receive any fertilized egg is not formed at all. but those mechanisms can't be stopped half way through.

Because you must start your first packet on the first day of your next period, not any other day, otherwise it won't work
