Dental Implants Abroad
4 Answers
I am considering having a dental implant but am less than happy about the cost involved through my own dentist. There is an active European market vying for British custom & I wonder what other peoples' experience has been? Hungary appears to be particularly keen to attract British trade and offers considerable reductions on British costs. Can anybody comment on the quality of their work, what the pitfalls may be and what safeguards exist in the event of something going wrong?

I recall that the total bill was around 1800. It required several visits, but with airfares for 50 ish, it is still a cheap solution. The Dentist and his staff were excellent and I would recommend them to anyone. Ask if you would like the web link to the site.

Hi HKD I will summarise a few salient points below, but my advice regarding going abroad for ANY medical/dental treatment would be this DON'T!
- No one can guarantee success with any medical/dental procedure, thats simply because you are a human and not a machine
- Your implants MAY be successful and last a long time (but NOT forever)
- What will you do should the worst happen and your implant treatment fails (as it can)
- Get it repaired on the NHS? Forget it, a hospital service would simply be obliged to remove causes of sepsis (i.e. your failing implants)
- A private dentist/oral surgeon in the UK would charge you well above and beyond your original quote to repair the work (if possible) and thats if they would be prepared to treat you at all
- A failed implant treatment could result in the need for extensive bone grafting to replace the implants or it may not be possible to replace them at all
- Medicine and dentistry is not regulated the same abroad as it is here and despite the national press I can assure that here in the UK the standards are high (thats not to say that other countries have lower standards)
- Consider the difficulty in returning if you are in the UK in acute pain?
- If you were to consider going abroad I'd recommend North America or Canada but then you'd find the cost and practicality prohibitive

hi...I have some friends (exactly 3 ) that went to Hungary and they were extremely lucky and fortunate to have found a US dentist in Budapest...
there is a Dentist/Implantologist from New York City that is in Budapest and she is taking only US and UK patients at this time...I don't have more details as of now but will get the name and contact info sent to me and I'll forward that to you guys...
