I'm getting my tonsils out in just over a week - has anyone had theirs out? I'm really scared and think it is really going to hurt!

I've had mine out.
It was the best thing I ever did as it meant the end of tonsillitis.
You'll have a sore throat for a few days, so just eat soft foods (don't do what I did when I fancied fish & chips - I put them in the blender. Yuk!)
I found the pain of the sore throat was less painful than tonsillitis.
Good luck.
its really painful after but sooo worth getting it done as no more tonsillitis. i was in pain for about a week after but the painkillers are brilliant.

dont worry, it will be worth it !!
Hi, I had mine out when I was 19. I was in pain for two weeks afterwards but it really was worth it. Dispersible co-codamol to gargle with was an excellent pain killer.
Don't be too nervous and make sure you milk the pampering and being look after!

X.
I lived on those little individual triffles and soup for two weeks - lovely to eat - and I shifted half a stone. It's not exactly fun - but soooo worth it in the long run. I felt better in myself all round afterwards. Didn't realise how much they had been bothering me - not just sore throats but tiredness and generally feeling unwell. Just be prepared to take it easy and don't rush back to work - and get lots of people to bring you hot drinks and keep your pillows fluffed up. Thinking of you...
I wasnt told that there is a possibility of getting an infection after the surgery, which I did and was in agony. So if you're in agony a day or three afterwards get straight to your doctors for antibiotics. good luck and the surgery left me just feeling uncomfortable initially.
it is really painful and apparently worse the older you get mine came out at 23 but I have to say despite taking a couple of weeks to get over it - it was best thing I did as I was having tonsilitis every 4 or 5 weeks and I have not had anything since.

My doctor told me that every time you get an infection on your tonsils they swell and never reduce to the size they were before that episode mine were dangerously big and I had no choice - it will be a bit sore but worth the pain for not being ill again.
I had mine removed when I was 23 and the operation itself is fine although you wake up with the driest mouth ever. I had an unfortunate reaction to the anesthetic that really didn't help. They advise you to just drink water for a few days afterwards so you can spot if you vomit any blood as coloured drinks would mask it (nice). To be honest the swelling bothered me more than the pain, which led to some nice dribbling for a few days! I took a week off work and mostly lay on the sofa feeling a bit sorry for myself but no where near as bad as I was expecting. And not as bad as my flatmate thought, who for some reason imagined they made a cut across your throat to carry out the op!!!
