Hello all. I came across my New Year resolution list the other day (yes, sadly I made lots!). One of them was to be able to do the splits by the end of the year and I'd actually still like to have a go at this. At the moment I can barely touch my toes, does anyone have any good excercises I could do to improve my flexibility? Also, any idea how long this is likely to take me? Thanks millions x

I remember as a little girl, always trying to do the splits, but could never quite make it. Yoga is very good for flexibility of the joints, but I still can't do it & time is ebbing away. Let's know how you get on. Good luck.
I agree about yoga, it will kill you at first but it doesn't take long to notice improvements, however I don't think I'll ever be able to do the splits.
Yes definatly yoga for flexibility and stretchiness as it lengthens the muscles. Then just practise doing the splits every couple of days and don't forget!
There's an exercise we do in Ju Jitsu that may help. Sit with your soles of your feet together in front of you. Hold your toes and use your elbows to push your knees towards the floor, (don't bounce just stretch. Hold for 20 seconds. Then relax and repeat (you should be able to get your knees closer to the floor the second time around! You'll feel the stretch on those groin muscles which I'm sure are ones that hurt when attempting the spilts!
