My daughter has been prescribed this for painful periods.Th e Doctor told me it thins the blood therefore there are no clots to cause the pain.Ive looked it up online and from what i understand, it actually forms clots to make periods lighter.Does anybody else take this?I could do with some feedback.

kola, i was prescibed Mefenamic acid but not this one, will look it up for you too.
Its benefit is to thicken up the blood so there is not too much blood loss but causing clotting is never a good thing, I would imagine these are to be taken only for a short time? Can cause thrombosis. Is the doc going to carry out regular checks on her kola? eg her liver etc?

This is my concern Al,the Doc gave me the prescrition and that was that. All she said was if they didnt work we could consider the pill.Im really not happy about her taking them.
I would discuss your concerns with the Doc Kola, I certainly wouldnt take these.
Even the mefanamic acid caused me no end of probs and I only took it twice!!!

Aye,she only took two.I`ll have a chat wi you later about it.
My 14 year old daughter was put on the pill for six months. It does appear to have worked for her. She was taking it for heavy irregular periods. It seems to have done the trick. She takes Ibuprofen for her period pains which appear to last for a couple of days.

auzzie,my daughter is also 14.I dont really want her to go on the pill yet.I was put on it at an early age and suffered a stroke at 21.Docs decided it was caused by the pill.
tranexamic will not relieve the pain it will make the bleeding lighter. Thrombosis isnt listed as a side effect, I was given this drug for menhorragia following a termination. I had to take it for a couple of periods after as I flooding a bit.

As a teenager I used to get awful period pains, that would make me sweat. I took mefenamic acid, and that only worked in conjunction with sitting in the bath and sleeping. FOrtunately it doesnt happen anymore as I am allergic to NSAIDS now, is your daughter asthmatic? Is that why she wasnt presribed this, or maybe small for her age?
Hi goodsy, shes not asthmatic but she is very slight(size 4)
Maybe he didnt think she was big enough to handle a strong anti inflammatory.

Get her some evening primrose supplements to take and maybe talk to your chemist.
