Through the eyes of a child
63 Answers
Can anyone recall silly things that you may've thought when you were a child?
I always thought that when you paid money into your savings account they kept it in a box for you and gave the exact notes/coins back that you had paid in when you made a withdrawal. I was a bit dismayed when I found out I was getting somebody elses money!

it was great being a kid
we laughed, we cried,we ran, we hid
it was great being a kid
we jumped in puddles, we kicked the leaves
we wiped our snotty nose on our sleeves
we blew bubbles from bubble gum,
we never swore in front of mum
the days seemed long, the sky was bright
we went to bed and dreamed all night
the things we said the things we did
it was great being a kid
playing cards stuck in the spokes
giving a seater, laughing at jokes
the things we said the the things we did
it really was great being a kid

Gosh, so many memories!
Oh yes, the earliest was when I was about 3 or 4 I remember being told that if you did something naughty it was a sin, and it left a black mark on your soul. Trouble was, I thought your soul was the sole of your foot.
I remember eating all of my brother's sweets then being terrified of getting found out because my mother would see my black feet. I kept checking them every day until gradually I forgot about it. And I never did get found out!

I remember my mum and I looking out of our living room window, which looked on to the drive way with the garden path to the right as we look out the window - we must have been looking out for Dad getting home from work or something - anyway, a black cat crossed our garden path and I was so excited because we were going to get some good luck!
I remember my Dad pointing up to the sky one Christmas Eve shouting exciteddly "Did you see Santa!?!", I went rushing up to the window and was convinced I saw him and his reindeer. If I didn't know better today, I'd maintain I had! LOL

I remember being taken to see the pantomime Cinderella On Ice. I didn't realise that it was on a skating rink and that the ice was only a couple of inches thick. I sat through the whole performance sick with fear every time somebody jumped up and down the ice would crack and that the performer would sink into a deep hole in the lake on which it was taking place and drown.
BOO, sorry I've only just got back here , in answer to the cup in the pie ....lol
Being a rather large family , it was a rather large pie dish .Mum used to put an upside down cup in the middle of the pie filling and then put the pastry over . The cup was to stop the pie sagging n the middle . Of-course I didn't see the cup when the pie went in and came out of the oven.

No BOO , I haven't been out lol. The dish was deep so the cup didnt come up too high, the pastry went over the top so the cup was under it. When the pie came out of the oven she could serve the pie and take the cup out ...hard to describe I guess , I think you can actually buy pastry supports for that purpose.
