how to soften leather boots

i have a pair of timberland boots and one of the pair rubbs on my big toe and makes it sore and breaks the skin,that i cannott wear them ,how can i soften the boots without damageing them

What about the stuff you use to keep football boots soft, don't know what it's called (will work on that though) but maybe that would help.
Dubbin? Does it still exist?
Dubbin, that brings back memories from my childhood!
Also, smear the affected toe with Vaseline for the next few times you wear the boots.
A friend once told me that in the military they shower with their new boots on and then wear them all day. Her Doc Martins seemed to fit her quite well, though I never did try it myself. Come to think of it, maybe that's not such a good idea. I imagine they'd stink to high heaven in less than a week.
