Would it be a good or a bad idea to have an energy drink, say like Red Bull, before an exam? Would it help or would it have the opposite effect?

You need to be calm during an exam and the extra caffeine might make you jittery and cause you to make silly errors. I would just make sure you get a good nights sleep beforehand and have a cup of tea or coffee with breakfast on the day of the exam. You want to feel normal, alert, relaxed, not artifically stimulated.
Some people swear by sugar before an exam to stimulate memory so pop a few sweets into your bag.
Chocolate stimulates the brain, so could be worth a try. Last time I took an exam (it was in 1969) I nipped out for a smoke, but I don't think that would be permitted these days!
The best preparation is to learn your stuff, get plenty of sleep, eat well and drink well and keep everything in perspective.
My mum used to give me a packet of glucose tablets to take to school. That was many years ago! Similar to sugar I suppose, but more quickly absorbed.
HI
im also taking my exams now (AS) and i eat a banana for breakfast because i've been told that it is slow releasing of energy and is proven to improve brain power and so far im satidfied with it even if it is only mentally affecting me.
