Try ''Rescue Nights'' rickee, a few drops on the tongue before you go to bed.

Can be bought over the counter at most Pharmacies for about 5.00.

Hope this helps.
lettuce sandwich and a glass of warm milk.

Being on the internet can stimulate the mind a bit too much before bed.....
Probably not reccomended, but I find 2 co-codamol and a piriton along with earplugs and an eyemask tend to work and I'm a terrible insomniac - my husband can't wait to get into bed with me!... ;)

Does Hubby snore?
Yes rickee, same company, its good stuff.

Thank you Karenmac. Are co-codemol available over the counter? I've had piriton which works sometimes. Rtaxron, earplugs are essential to combat snore rage lol,i'm sure Karen would probably agree.
He doesn't snore - I think its that the sound of my own breathing sends me to sleep, a kind of pre birth womb thing maybe. And yes, co-codamol are available over the counter. Good luck!

Thank you both Rtax and Karen:-)
I use herbal nytol or sleepeze from Boots and find that even if it doesn't get me straight off to sleep I'm a lot more relaxed.

Try and figure what it is causing the insomnia? If like me you find it hard to switch your mind off then you could try a distraction technique.

I have Sky News on in the background and, as it's quite repetitive (unless something bad happens) you brain eventually tunes it out and falls asleep.
The herbal Nytol doesn't work for me at all. The non herbal one (and the Co-ops own brand) work but I have violent nightmares and am brain dead the next day until about 4.00pm. I find Piriton better than Nytol. I do use earplugs but tend to get earache when I use them.

If I take paracetamol and have the radio on softly I tend to fall asleep more easily, but I usually wake up a couple of hours later and then can't sleep for the rest of the night.

How I envy people that go to bed and sleep through until the morning!!

I will put on a dvd that I've already seen a few times so that I'm not really paying attention to it and doze off more easily than if watching tv which causes you to pay more attention and makes it harder to fall asleep. Also, even though it sounds little alchoie, have you tried a night cap?
My sentiments echo LoftyLottie's. ;o}

I am an insomniac & have tried Nytol. All they did was keep me awake half the night & gave me such a hangover in the morning. I've also tried Valerian tablets, which seemed to relax me, but didn't make me sleep. My GP occasionally gives me sleeping tablets, but I don't like to rely on them, only taking half or a whole one if I'm really having trouble dropping off!

My best sleeps are when I nod off on the sofa watching telly - then once I wake up, I go to bed, stick an ear plug in one ear & an in-ear phone in the other & listen to a spoken word tape, which usually helps me get back to sleep.

P.S. Lottie - I can't put whole ear plugs in my ears either, as they make mine ache too. I always cut them in half & they fit just right. Hope that helps!

Smudge, I have found the best ear plugs are the Earfit ones which are foam, you roll up thinly before putting them in your ears and then they expand to fit your ear channel. I have tried Boots own version but they don't cut out much sound at all!! I presumed my earaches were from my ears getting to hot and not being able to 'breathe' if you see what I mean!!

Earfit earplugs are so small if I cut them in half I think they would disappear somewhere in my ears, but thanks for the tip!

p.s. I went to work one day after trying Nytol (non herbal). They sent me home because I was 'spaced out' and not making much sense!!
Popping in quick, as I'm off to a funeral in Essex at 1:00pm.

Lottie - sorry, I don't actually cut them in half as such, I cut the rounded tops off to make them smaller, then squeeze them & stick them in my ears to expand. They're quite comfy that way. (Having said that, I had a dreadful night's sleep last night - funeral looming!

My friend works for a company that supplies earplugs for their work shops, so I get them for free! They are called Pura-Fit 7700.

Happy sleeping all.
P.S. It also reads Moldex on the pack.
anybody else tried phenergan tablets .. really for hayfever etc but i find they're a total knockout .. available in two strengths .. i take the 10mg usually only one but the blurb says u can take up to 5!!! husband takes them and they work for him too although his sleepless nights are usually caused by me!!! available over the counter ... phenergan .. not me !!
