bulging/ ruptured disc and epidural treatment

Has anyone had a ruptured or bulging disc in the lower back sucessfully treated by epidural injection. I have not yet come accross anyone who can say it worked for them. I am due to have one but I am a little apprehensive. Any sucess stories out there please?

Hi Marion,

Having had major back problems myself in the past, I have so much sympathy for you. (just recovering from two-level spinal fusion).
I understood that epidural injections were used to relieve pain, not to actually treat the cause.

My surgeon said that epidural injections were a waste of time as it will only relieve pain for a short while. I'm guessing that surgery may be your only answer. Have you been referred to a consultant?

didn't do anything for me had a slipped disk

but whilst waiting in hospital several patients said they couldnot live with out it

i think every body must react different

you can always give it a go and see what happens

you got nowt to loose

i was really lucky with my slipped disc as the material around the disc closed on it cutting off the blood supply so the bit that was bulging out withered away after about 6 months and all the pain, sciatica etc cleared up without surgery.

Hiya.
I had mine done in November 2006 and it was brilliant.
It took about 24-36 hours to really feel the benefit and it mainly continues to this day............
I'm still on a good regime of pharmaceutical pain relief but the pain I feel now compared to the pain I had before is almost negligible..........

Thankyou all for your replies to my question. I think I will give the epidural a try and see how it goes, anything has to be better than this constant pain and sciatica, it is so dibilitating and very draining.
