I get white spots (milk spots?) around my eyes that last for months. I was wondering what causes them and what I can do about them.

A friend of mine says that this could be an indication of a cholesterol problem and it may be worth checking it out with your doctor.
These white spots are called millia and they are really common. They turn up in clusters around the eyes and no-one knows why. They are harmless.
Looked this up for you following my comments. Charlie asks the following question: I have small white spots around my eyes on the surrounding skin and wondered what they were! They are not normal spots but appear every now and then and some are permanent - also the whites of my eyes appear yellow in colour and always they feel tired and sore! Any suggestion? Dr Hilary says These spots could just be due to blocked sebaceous glands as they come and go, but the permanent ones may also deposits of cholesterol that accumulate if your blood cholesterol levels are high. Yellowness of the whites of the eyes could represent a liver problem or simply be the result of irritation. A cholesterol and a urine test after a quick visit to your doctor would seem in order. This was taken from netdoctor.co.uk which is where my friend was able to diagnose her problem so its not a million miles out.
