I'm off to bed too. Night all, sleep well and don't worry just be positive. God Bless xx
Night Debs. try not to worry though - it'll only make things worse. I'm sure the doctor'll sort it out for you.

Sounds fine jacey. I don't see what little or no alcohol has to do with age. A few months back, I was diagnosed with an enlarged liver. Scared me to death, thinking that my past drinking habits'd done something horrible. Seems to've stablilised now, but I'm glad i stopped when I did - which was when I found out I was pregnant. Still got to watch the old liver, but if anythig goes wrong, I'm told it's nothing to do with drinking.

Pass it onto me as well bez. It might help someone I know. x
Bez, I just tried to add your email address to my address book, and I got a message saying the email address was not a valid internet email address.

Then it asked if I would like to add it anyway, so I said yes. Does that sound right? (Clear as mud. lol.)

Mine was 12.8 whenit was originally checked!!
I have Hyperlipodaemia.....I produce too much.
I started on Cholestipol for some years, but I have been taking Simvastatin for the last eight years.
It's down to 3.3 now.I have always had a drink or two...Couple of pints of beer a week, couple of bottles of wine (red or white) and a small addiction to Campari and Soda ! I don't think it's had any bad effects so far. I'm 72 and hope to continue for a few more years!!
Just a P.S. here. I have been looking on the Diabetes UK site (diagnosed 3months ago) They have been discussing the pros and cons of statins, and it appears that Simvastatin is the most commonly prescribed (cheapest) and this is the one most ppl have problems with. Atorvastatin, is the one I take and those who have been swapped to it after muscle pain on simvastatin, have since been fine. So smile sweetly to your Dr. and try for Atorvastatin. Good Luck x
A friend of mine has been vegetarian for more than 30 years, never been overweight, drank alcohol or smoked. She was a champion swimmer and still swims regularly as well as other exercise. (She is good fun, honest!)

Her cholesterol is sky high and she has to take statins. It is genetic in her case and there is nothing she can do to help her condition other than take the drugs.

I have been overweight all my life; eat too much meat fat, cream and butter, exercise never and my cholesterol is always below 5.

Life in unfair at times.
Hi DebsyDoo.
I would not be too concerned if I were you.
The problem may run in the family.
A few years ago, my reading was 12.2.
I am now down to 4.7.
I do take the lipantil group of meds, as statins did nothing for me.
There is light at the end of the tunnel.
Go with what your GP prescribed.
Good luck. xxx

Thanx to all who have responded with encouragement & helpful suggestions since last nite !

A relief to hear that there are others out there with higher No's (the way my Doc phrased it, worried me no-end !)
- by the way, it's Atorvastatin Calcium (20mg) I've been prescribed.

As an aside, it's mainly because my mother suffered a massive stroke at 48 (with a cholesterol level of 12.4) I got really worried, as I'm 3yrs older than that & not that far behind in the "No's" !!!
Oh dear.. I only have 3.8... will that do ? Mind, five years ago it was 2.8 and I got told off for it being too low ... you just can't win, can you ?
Good result Debsy, they'll sort it out. So please stop worrying now and have a great stress free christmas ( well as stress free, as christmas can be) x
