My daughter is 18, her two smallest toes on one foot are bright red/purple in colour, she is in a lot of pain with them and they are absolutely freezing! Her feet are always cold but this is the worst they have been for a few years. She said during the night the pain wakes her up, if she itches them they sting and hurt even more, like a burning feeling .... any ideas?
I have rung the doctor but cannot get an appointment for another two days!

Sounds like Chilblains louise. Maybe your pharmacist can suggest something.
Chilblains! Get some thick socks.
chillblains are really painful but also have a burning itch and this relieves it http://www.auravita.com/products/aura/pick1000 0.asp
It would be useful to use this to cool it down and as puzzled54 says, wear warm thick socks or socks with high silk content for warmth. Avoid putting cold toes too near heat as well as this is rumoured to cause chillblains, cold fingers and toes should be warmed slowly.
Hi, it could also be Gout, the redness of the toes and the burning feeling are also the symptons of Gout, your Doctor will know immediately.
Gout usually affects the joints in the big toes so I doubt whether it's that, my husband suffered with it for years and used to get it in his elbows and knees as well, it usually only attacks the larger joints so I would agree with Puzzled, sounds more like chilblains to me.
Gelda is spot on......also aged 18, a bit young for gout.
Just an extra bit of info for anyone out there - My dad's hand swelled up and its been diagnosed as Gout and he doesn't smoke or drink.. tablets from the doctor seem to be doing the trick .. so its not just feet, knees, or elbows..
Chillblains. Unlikely to be gout in an 18 year old unless having kidney problems...
I think it COULD be GOUT and my brother had it at 16. He is not a heavy drinker, doesn't smoke. He's had it a few times since - and it doesn't always affect the bigger joints
Drinking doesn't cause gout, my husband was teetotal, but it can agravate it , I agree you can get it in small joints like the hands but it usually attacks the larger joints.
