What is the age cut off, if there is one I would like to donate my organs in the event, but would they be of any use? As far as I know everything seems to be at least moderately ok. But if they throw them away afetr a certain age Imight as well take them with me so to speak.

there is no upper or lower age limit to be an organ donor.

Yes I've heard that, but surely if a person is, for arguments sake 70 would they take the corneas. The heart might be on its way out as could other donatable parts.
i suppose the answer is to carry one anyway and if its needed they'll use it. But do you get my drift.

they don't take organs and store them. if you match someone and the donation is feasible they will consider it.

and if you take it all with you.. what good will that do?

I was interested thats all Sara, not much point giving a fifty year old heart to a sixteen year old is there if the job has to be redone in a few years it there? Its not like a Mondeo is it pretty serious thought must go into these decisions.

It's not just major organs that are need from donors, but also things like bones for grafts etc., so age is not a barrier.

I don't know s54, I guess a healthy 50 year old heart might last another 20-30 years.. worth it for a 16 year old who might otherwise die, and hopefully they may get another chance at a transplant later in life.

you could donate your whole body to medical science and then you know your whole body will be used, not for transplants but for training new doctors, and that's got to be worthwhile. eventually, after they finish using it, the remains are either given back to the family or disposed of by the medical school or the body parts retained for further use by the medicals chool. you decide that in advance.
