What is a reasonable priced mascara that will thicken and lengthen lashes (lengthen more than thicken!) and will not clump or smudge? I hate mascaras that weigh the lashes down or that flake off. I use to use Astor magic style but it has been discontinued to my disappointment!

Don't know about reasonably priced, but you could try Estee Lauder's 'more than mascara' - it's great. It depends on how many coats you apply, but I find that with two/three, you get that false lash effect, but with one coat, you still get that wow effect, without weighing the lashes down too much either way. I always get compliments with EL's mascara, so I refuse to try any other now! 16.50 from Boots and Rackams/House of Fraser.
I've bought a lot of mascaras and found the best is lancome volumising mascara, it does work and is worth the money. Try getting one on ebay
I always use the Boots No. 7 range.
I vote for Bourjois Coup de Theatre - slightly fiddly but worth it.

A handy tip that I picked up a few years ago is to use a clear mascara on your lashes first as this separates them, let that dry (for about a minute) then use a thickening/lengthening mascara afterwards.

i've tried
