Bowel Screening

I have had my mammogram (yesterday).

I now have been invited to supply a sample for screening for the above.I know its nothing but has anyone else had to 'provide' and what did it entail -you dont have to be too graphic lol

I am definitetly going to do it -we berate the NHS but within weeks of my 50th I was offerd a mammogram and bowel screening -(the mammograms out the way now).

I am well impressed and would be interested if anyone else withinn literally weeks of their 50th have had this service from the NHS.

I am assured its normal -but im wondering if they are referring only to Scotland.

Has anyone never received the service I have had and where are you from as I think it should be available to all men and women reaching 50 -regardless of the service they are offering -im not expecting men to be offerred mammograms but are you offered a prostate test or even a examination just for example?

Where are you from -I can see a petition looming !!!

Its worth chasing up Sachs, I know in my area (STaffordshire) that each GP surgery has a chunk of time that their elligible women are screened by mammography. I think they do this twice a year so if you miss one chunk of allocated time you get slotted into the next. Your area might have a similar system but its worth checking up with your GP surgery

Dris, you are quite right health care should not depend on your postcode but I know my Health Authority are as tight as a duck's @rse. I will do as you suggest, first I'll try my GP.

Interrupting the topic, did you get to Iceland?

I have provided samples five years (I think) apart when invited and agree that this is well worth doing. 'Listeners' may be interested to know that I reached back and held the lolly stick against the exit location and caught easily enough 'in transit' to the pool below to provide the smear, but it does assume less than maximum hardness. The sample smear needs be no more than a skid mark. Nothing to it - sorry if that was too graphic.

KARL -brillaint -its good we can have a laugh at this -it may save us !!

Rosetta -Yeak we went to Iceland and totally and utterly fell in love wiith it -it was the most amazing place we have ever been and we have travelled.

For �149 pp for 3 nights in a fab hotel inc travell -we were fundamentally taking advantage of their economy or lack of ot but if anyone gets the chance do it now as its now cheaper than here as opppsed to 4 times the cost before.Amazing -I cant wait to go back.Thanks for asking Rosetta -really go for it !!!

Its inique -we only managed the Blue Lagoon (couldnt extract myself from there so missed other things -it was phenoimenamal (sp? lol) and Reykjavik -its magical Rosetta -dont boither -im glad that some are at least taking heed of my thread and maybe some will do something about it -so its a double informative thread lol.

In fact I have saved all my wee cleaning jobs money and have enough for another trip to Icelnad (have a house in Spain but really we will end up living there) so think I might just book another trip for April and take the Auroroa Borealis (again (sp?) i would have checked but you know whay i mean -plus we have the EMail addy of an Icelander we met who has a lodge and he would like to go to Spain in exchange for us staying in his lodge -hmm -might just take the bull by the horns here lol.I know i'm taking advantage of their really poor economy but they love us and they are so kind and friendly -I could actually get a job for the icilandic tourist board as i have intereated at least 3 couples to gp and I think they will lol

Och im away to look to see if I can get a wee weekend with me and my son for April -wee surprise for him -and man it will be lol !!!

I think men should -I would check with your GP to see if if its on the agenda-you should deffo get bowel screening as we all have them !!

just to let you know, I phoned my surgery today. Breast screening will be available in my area in July/ August & they will send out an appointment automatically as routine. Thanks for the thread Dris! xxx
