my dad some suddenly started with pain in his neck last weekend. by tuesday he could not even stand and ended up in hospital on morphine.they did exrays but found nothing

they sent him home on diazapem and 60mg codine 500mg paracetamol tablets. he also takes tramadol for his back (he had surgery a few years ago). the pain is not better and has now gone into his shoulder and hes struggling to find relief. hes allergic to nsaid's so there limited on what they can give him

ive told him to go to the drop in centre this afternoon to see what else they can suggest for him. hes really worried about taking time off work he worked for woolworths and has only just started a new job and is still in his 3mth trial.

any suggestions would be greatful

From what you have said, it is musculo-skeletal.

How is he allergic to NSAID's....what happens.

Suggestion:

1) Continue hospital regime.
2) Use Voltarol or ibuprofen Gel...rubbed generously into the shoulder.

Right....a problem eh.
If there is no improvement in the next couple of hours, then he will have to return to A&E for stronger analgesics.

yeah thats what hes gonna do. he has a good drop in centre next door to A&E so hes gonna go up and see someone
TENS machine! I have permanent nerve damage in my chest wall from lung surgery, apart from Tramadol the only thing that works for me is the TENS machine that the consultant at the pain clinic gave me.

he has tens machine but he never thought to try it!!! thank you for jogging my memory my mum is just setting it up worth a try!!!!
Just try and reassure your dad that the effect of a TENS machine is cumulative,it may not seem to help at first but he must stick with it for a while. I have to use my machine for 90 minutes each time,3 times a day to get the full benefit.
His GP should also make a referral to a hospital pain management clinic if the pain becomes unmanageable.
I have been suffering with much the same type of pains as your dad and I use Algesal analesic cream with Solpadol 30/500mg Caplets which give some relief. I put it down to spending too much time on this thing, and not doing something useful.
