Period like pains

I was just wondering if anyone could help me. I got my period over a week ago now, (it was alot heavier than usual) and normally i only get cramps on the first day, this time i had them all the way through, and even though my period finished 4 days ago, i still have really bad cramps. Does anyone know what this could be?
