When you have an operation NOBODY is in control of their own destiny except the surgeon.

Scared...maybe........but "in control over their own destiny" is, in my opinion, over the top.

Am I missing the point here?

Yes, my life will be in someone else's hands over which I have no control. Suppose I should have more faith in the surgeon.
shaking,
have you had your op explained to you ? Have you spoken to someone at the hospital? x
Question Author
No the operation wasn't explained, just that I had a hernia and it would be repaired. The consultant wasn't the type of person you could 'talk' to.
May be you would have felt better had you had it explained to you. Have you people around you who will be there for you, family/ friends? x
OK...you will go ninto the operating theatre and the area of operation will be cleaned and a local anaesthetic injectred which is not painful. The anaesthetist will probably give you an injection into a vein or drip that has already been set up. As it is a day case the operation will be undoubtedly minimally invasive i.e small 1" incision. The operation will take about 30 mins during which time you will not feel a thing.
Clips or stitches, cup of tea and off you go home. Minimal pain post operatively which will be controlled by paracetamol if necessary.

Sorry for the delay, had to take an urgent phone call.
Thanks Sachs, you are right, would have felt better if things had been explained. However Sqad617 has done this in a "clinical" way for which I am grateful.
Thinking of you for Thursday shaking. Let us know how you are after! xxx
Question Author
Will do Sachs. Not wishing my life away but will be glad when it is Friday!!
Everyone is scared of an operation. We'd rather not would'nt we! But, when it has to be done, it has to be done. Sure you'll be fine. Take care xxx
Obviously you are feeling a tad nervous. Ask for a pre-med it will calm you... Good luck!
good luck shaking, Im sure it will all go well xx
all the best shaking, still waiting for my hernia op had to be postphoned as my thyroid function was not right and I had to have my thyroxine increased before they would operate, still waiting for another blood test as i have to take the increased dose for 6 weeks then have blood test to see if it is right. I too am grateful to sqad for the imformation as I wouldnt have asked the surgeon either. Let us all know how you get on. I am sure you will be fine shaking.

Got it over with thank goodness but am in quite a lot of discomfort and trying to control this with pain killers which the hospital prescribed., not very successfully though. Have been stapled back together and have to have these removed after 7 days.
Hope your op goes ok Dinkydoo, I know you aren't as scared as I was but no doubt apprehensive and nervous, trust you will receive first class care as I did. Best wishes.
glad to hear you got through your op!
shaking. Glad to hear your op is over. Take care of yourself, and you'll soon be as right as rain. Best wishes. Schutz.
How you feeling today shaking? x
Question Author
Hi Sachs, Thanks for your enquiry, truth is I have had a rotten day, have been sick as a dog and the pain killers don't seem to work. Things can only get better!! Nice of you to think of me.
Hi shaking x
hope you're feeling much better today x
Question Author
Hi Sachs. Yes feeling a bit better thank you, have got the pain more or less under control and the sickness has ceased. Can have a bath tomorrow which will be welcome and I can discard the surgical stockings, horrid things! It's a true saying, you don't appreciate your health until you haven't got it. Still not up to much but getting there slowly. Thanks for asking after me, your support is appreciated.
