Specifically with music, even more so with music we've only heard for the first time, what is it within us (and I mean really within) that gives that shiver down the spine or similar?...it has to come from the brain/mind doesn't it?...but why? The Theme from Harry's Game by Clannad gives me that feeling, though it has nothing to do with the content of the tv play (and other Clannad stuff has the same effect) and other music does the same for different reasons, maybe memories of things and yet something only heard once can do the same. What is it within us?...this make any sense?
Hiya woodelf,
I suppose we just identify with something in a song in our own way? Music can make me cry or think of a person or remind me of a particular moment in time. Some tracks just hit the way you're feeling at that given time making it memorable x
Hi Sachs, yeah I go along with all that, but aint that mostly memory (and who knows how that works?), but that certain shiver is something rather different don't you think? xx
Hi wood,
well you were right! The 'shiver' or similar effect is triggered by a chemical called 'dopamine' released in the 'nucleus accumbens' in the brain! x
hey woodey when I was younger I went to a lot of raves and took alot of drugs and you got that shiver all the time for like 8 hours. happy days. I dont condone or touch drugs now though
woodelf....can't answer your question, but it is certainly chemical as Sachs says probably Dopamine.
I know very little of the neuro-chemistry of emotions, but ti has nothing to do with the nucleus ambiguous as this is a motor nerve to many sites in the neck, but mainly the vocal cords.
If you Googled.........".neuro-chemistry of emotions" that should keep you awake tonight.
Hey Beaty, Sachs gave one x so I gave two in return, being nice like - but I aint any idea whether Sachs is a she, he or even a nucleus in the chemical infrastructure of the brainyloaders...smile.
sounds like a girly username to me :) even if it isnt there is nothing wrong with leaving a kiss to another man. I know loads of men who do it. ok they maybe gay and have sex with each other but its still acceptable right? x
Hey Sachs, I'm even deeper than a deep pan analogy....smile. Life just keeps trundling on as it does, but art is getting better...well it never stops...working on five er um six or even seven paintings at the moment...almost simultaeneously, as it were, which of course it is, as it were or again, as it was...and therein lies the depth of depthness of my depthnicity.
