Right I've had enough of the pill!! I want to come off it as the last year or so its not agreed with me and I'm fed up waiting on my body to sort itself out! I've been to docs several times and all they suggest is a different pill but I've tried 4 now and its driving me mad having spotting. Once you've had 4 different types they send you to a gynaecologist to get things checked. I personally think they just need to find the right pill for me instead of sending me there. Anyway, can I stop taking it straight away or do I have to wait til the end of the pack? Are there any side effects to coming off it?
Hello CAJ1, have you considered an injection (Depo-provera) or a removable implant (Implanon). Alternatively, you could also try a coil. It doesn't sound as if your GP has explored all avenues. Might be worth another visit armed with some information! Hope this helps. Lyn.
Thanks for your answers. I had the injection and bled for 3 months (it really didn't agree with me for some reason!) I'm not sure about the coil I had heard it could make periods heavier?? I know this will sound very uneducated but what is the difference between the pill I have been on and the progesterone only minipill?
Right...in simple terms, the pill is a combination of oestrogen derivatives and progesterone and the untoward side effects come from the female component, the oestrogens.
There have been many trials by respected medical authorities which show that a POP (progestrone only pill) is as effective, with less side effects.
Ah right thanks, so if I switched to this pill it should stop my spotting and other side effects. I wonder why my doctor hadn't suggested putting me on it before??
Cheers sqad. Sorry to have asked you so much but my GP is useless so I will see if I can get an appointment and go back armed with my knowledge and demand the POP!
im having the implant done on monday, im so nervous. worried how my body is going to react - weight gain, constant bleeding. but ive been on the pill for 7 years and feel its time for a change and then i dont have to remeber a pill everyday, so scared of having it in tho!
I had the same problem and the only one that stopped it is the Yasmin pill. Cos its the most expensive one they only give it to you once you've tried everything else and I had to specifically say I wanted to try it. Been on it 6 months now and its a godsend!
