My close friend who is in her 60's has all her life been treated as a child, everyone including her husband would do everything for her, now her husband has died. Her family have now taken over the job of again doing everything for her, she knows that this is wrong and is very depressed over it; how can I help her try to become independent and believe in herself? Thank you.

encourage her to join local groups or take up a class/new hobby. This is something she can do for herself and promote her independence.
I lost my husband not too long ago, but we were a partnership my family rallied and offered to de everything but I knew I had to do things myself. It wasn`t eay telling them that I would ask for help if needed, but I did it.

More importantly i now know they are there if i want and not feeling pressured to do it all.
She must find the courage to tell them this, its a road road to travel, give her my love.
