If you unknowingly have sex with a minor and are caught what is the usual sentance if any?

what do you mean if any?? If you have sex with a minor it's classed as statutory rape isn't it ie. the 'child' (even if she is 15 and 364 days) can't give consent. Secondly i'm afraid not knowing isn't a defence - you can't claim ignorance. Don't know what a likely sentence would be, possibly prison but you automatically go on the sex offenders' register making you look like a paedo.

It will depend (in part) on what country you're in. It may also depend on your age and the age of the other party. It may help you if 'consent' was clearly given, and if you're both close to the age of consent.

With reference to NoGood Boyo's posting on this thread: while it is quite right that an offence such as statutory rape be dealt with by legal means, it isn't an offence to ask what such a sentence might be (this being a Q&A site).

Nor do we (as a site, as a country) pre-judge any individual. Without wishing to insinuate or imply anything about netty.m, in general we are all innocent until proven guilty.
