To add to all my other problems I have Patulous Eustation (I don`t know if that`s the correct spelling) and it`s like I have an doctors stethoscope in my ears because I can hear my heart beating clearly in my head, then my ears pop, and for a while I can hear normally then `pop` and it`s back again, My GP say`s nothing can be done and therefore I have to live with it. Does anyone know better?

I presume that the diagnosis of Patulous Eustachian tube was made by an ENT Specialist and not a GP.

If so, then it is a difficult problem...BUT..the insertion of a ventilating tube (no big deal) in the affected ear or ears, may well help.
I get this now and again but on top of this I have Tinnitus which is far worse, as I get ringing and the sound of the sea like you get when you put a seashell to your ears.

I have had it for ten years and you just have to get used to it, even though it sometimes drives you mad.
heartbeat - rubbish rhythm, try this:

sqad: As stated in my post "My GP say`s etc etc" but please elaborate the `ventilating tube`.
trt: I also have Tinnitus but I can hear a very high `squeeching sound ` which is apparently .because of blood flowing through my head due to a pacemaker in my right shoulder.
tamborine. Mine goes `blub de blub-blub de blub blub de blub` Go man go.
sorry carlton23 - didn't realise you had a pacemaker - do you walk faster (jokes aside) try not to listen out for body sounds.....I distract myself with loud music. My sleep is erratic due to hearing blood rushing, heart beat & high pitch noise; the bedroom is 'white noise' so have to get on Youtube for distraction.

Earphones dont work for me.
Bit of overlapping here and some definitions need applying.

2 main sensations in the ear, due to completely different causes.

1) Tinnitus
2) Pulsations

Tinnitus is a high pitched ringing noise as described by trt
Pulsations, heartbeat as described by carlton.

Carlton...ventilating tube is a small tube inserted into the ear drum under an operating microscope. Easy, day case and no big deal and might well relieve the symptoms of a Patulous Eustachian tube, if the diagnosis was PET.

In my opinion it is the diagnosis of despair in many cases, and used when no diagnosis comes to mind.

sqad, sorry I haven`t seen your reply until now,.....been busy looking after the wife whom has been ill with a very bad cold and in bed. I`ll ask my GP what he thinks about your diagnoses the next time I see him. many thanks yet again.
