Sore eyes
8 Answers
I have this a few times over the passed week or so, not red or bloodshot or irritated, just feels like one or both eyes (the front of them) are really sore, almost stinging.
Will try and pop in to a pharmacy and ask tomorrow but would welcome any ideas to sort them out in the meantime.

I've been trying to think what might have set them off but have been in different places when they have come on sore and sometimes only one eye.
No gunk or stickiness or anything like that or would have just figured something like conjunctivitis and hit the eyedrops.
I'm have some eyedrops, general ones, but they haven't helped so far.
Might try some antihistamines and different drops.

Usually with allergies your eyes will be itchy along with the stinging/soreness. You may have dry eye issues which can be associated with a number of things such as medication, environment, blink rate due to visual demand, smoking, age related changes, hormonal changes ....
Sore is a vague term, could you use any other words to describe it like itchy, gritty, tired, tender to touch etc.

They aren't itchy, they are sore like a stinging feeling like when you get shampoo in your eye and seems to feel generally sore right under the inner rim of my upper eyelid.
Allergy would make the most sense. I smoke, have done for over 10 years now,
I do wonder about being dehydrated as I've felt pretty dehydrated over the passed week or so and been trying to make a bit effort to keep drinking proper fluids so maybe they are a bit dry.
Medication wise, I've been on a bit of a trial of not taking ones recently, came off citalopram, amitriptyline, sulfasalazine and Questran to give my body a break and see how I go as fed up of being dosed up all the time.
Actually, am wondering if it's the coming off Questran to see if my body has settled after the initial lot, I have bile acid malabsorbion which has caused wierd deficiencies in the past so maybe it's something like that?
Before the Questran things would go straight through me, however, currently have a very painful incidence of the other way, part of the reason I worried I'm dehydrated.

Sounds like you need an antihystamine due to a pollen allergy. My eyes get irritated at this time of year for about one month and I think it`s something to do with tree pollon. I never suffered until about 3 years ago. Regarding dehydration, due to the nature of my job I can get very dehydrated and sore eyes arn`t really a symptom.
